To be honest, I am very proud of being one of Bukittinggi citizens. Because I have several reasons why I say so. First, this town is recognized by almost all people in Indonesi as a tourism town or as a educational town. This town is recognized as a tourism town because it has some tourism objects. Like the clock tower which is located at the center of that town. Besides that this town also has other interesting tourism objects like the Japaness tunnel, or the Fort De Cock. All of them are considered as the historical places since they are the lagacies of Dutch Collonization as well as the Japaness Collonization. Besides this town is rich or historical places, it is also rich with its natural beauties, like the Sianok Canyon or the beautiful vies or Merapi and Singgalang mountain.
Bukittinggi people is the people who has a strict traditional values. They are very strict religious followers. What’s more they are very active in running their life in form of many kinds of jobs and professions. Most of them are entrepreneours, while the others are teachers, traders as well as public servants. At present Bukittinggi is determined to be an educational town as well. Therefore the government of Bukittinggi is very busy improving all sectors of education in that town. In line of business development, Bukittinggi is also busy improving the capacity of their business sector. As for example, a very modern trading center is also being established in Pasar Bawah. Thankfully, all the sectors or all the components of that town support all things that have been planned and determined by that town government.
One of policies that has been launched by the local government of Bukittinggi is to make that town to be the town that is free from all kinds of garbage as well as free from being any kind of “maksiat” (Sinful Activities). No wonder, all Bukittinggi security apparatus are busy sweeping all kinds of activities that can pollute not only the physical performance of that town but also the spiritual performance of that town as well.
To tell you briefly about some outstanding tourist objects of Bukittinggi are like a big clock tower.

A big clock which famous called “ Djam Gadang” is allocated at the center of Bukittinggi town. It’s located in The Sabai Nan Aluih Park, in front of Tri Arga Place. It is being a symbol of Bukittinggi.
It was built at 1926 by Yazid, a town Architect, with his partner St. Gigi Ameh. At that time , Rookmaker as a town secretary got the present a big clock from The Queen of Dutch. He asked the town architect to build a tower where the big clock would be put. The first stone of that building was layed down by the eldest son of Rookmaker . He was six years old at that time. The building spent about F 3000.
At the beginning when the tower has been finished, the roof was formed like a dome with a cock statue on the top of it. The cock it self indicated that the people didn’t know how to see the time. The way to know the time is just by hearing the cock crow in the morning. Then, the roof of that tower was changed like trapezoid when the Japanese colonized Indonesia. Later, the roof has been changed like a buffalo horn after getting freedom and proclaim the Indonesia independence of civilizer. A buffalo horn is a symbol of Minangkabau culture in West Sumatera.

The Sianok canyon and Panorama Park which also the tourist object in Bukittinggi are allocated about 2 km from the center of the town.
We can enjoy the beautiful and amazing view from Panorama Park. One of the examples is Sianok Canyon, with Singgalang Mountain as its background. It presents very beautiful view. Besides, the fresh air and friendly people make all of the visitors really enjoy the situation over there. In this location, there are many facilities near the object, such as souvenir kiosk, beverage kiosk, bench over the park and also parking area. Then another interesting object is domestic monkey around the canyon.
In the middle of park area, we can find the Japanese Tunnel which has the historical value of Bukittinggi. It was built at 1942. During the construction process, thousands of people were forced to work. The tunnel was named after the Japanese occupants Indonesia.
Ladder 1000
The Ladder 1000(Janjang 1000) is a tourism object with the green fertile soil and the rivers follow the steeply riverbanks gaps. While passing through this ladder, we can enjoy the elegant and enchant view with Merapi and Singgalang as a background.
Ladder 1000 is easy to get around the town centre. The beauty of the nature is always being a favorite place to visit by foreign and also local tourist. Sometimes, this place used as camping centre and hiking area. Besides, there are also fishing pool and large parking area as facility to the visitors.
Panorama Baru View.
Panorama Baru is a tourism object which still have nice natural view. Around of it we can enjoy the air fresh while take some meals, cause around in this place there are many mountain like Merapi mountain, Singgalang and Sago mountain. And the bottom side of Panorama Baru we can enjoy Sianok Canyon view. And in this location there are many object like camping area, hiking area. As usual the every Sunday morning many people go to this place for jogging.
Kinantan Zoo and Moseum.
In the middle of the zoo, there is a customary house of Minangkabau named “Rumah Gadang”. It has a smaal room called “ Rangkiang” which has a function as a rice shed when the crisis come in Minangkabau. This room has different name, for example: Si Bayau-Bayau and Sitinjau Lauik. Beside Rumah Gadang, there is also a “Bundo Kanduang”park. Bundo Kanduang is a kind of hearted mother, one of the symbols of Minangkabau because women have important rule since century years ago.

A military Fort was built on “ Jirek Hill” at 1825 by Dutch Government. The fort is called “ Fort de Kock”. It was used as defense place by Ducth when face the First World War.
A water fountain was built in 1932, which called “Guguk Limpapeh”. It is also object for tourist. From this place, we can enjoy Bukittinggi view with several mountains and canyon surrounds it, like Sianok Canyon, Merapi, Singgalang, Sago and Pasaman Mountain.
For de Kock has been renovated by adding bird cage around it at 2002 by government fund.

Opposite the bottom there is a market pasa named Pasa Aua Tajungkang. In this market there are sellers stationery, veil, muslim clothing.
Aua Kuniang
Is tanah abang in Bukittinggi, is the center of Bukittinggi's largest apparel sales. The buyer not only from the west Sumatra alone but there are also those from outside the region and even from other States. If the holiday, there is always filled with tourists from outside the region and outside the country, buy necessities or souvenirs that will be brought to you in the place of origin.

Goods sold in Pasa Putiah is a quality used goods. The price is quite affordable and source goods from overseas.
